Setor 1 – 13,1 km
On the left, we cross Estrada Nacional 122 and turn towards the town centre of Castro-Marim, spotting the Fortifications of Santo António, the Mother Church, the Praça 1º de Maio and, further below, while descending the main street, we find the local market and tourist office, where you can gather information and enjoy some of the most traditional agricultural foodstuffs. Following the route and signage, we enter the Quinta da Cerca and enjoy a fantastic panoramic view towards the Vista Real and river Guadiana. We continue to walk through the locality of Monte Francisco, passing by Paco de Lucía Square (a tribute to the Spanish flamenco guitarist and remembrance of his mother Lúcia Gomes, a native of this village). With your feet to the ground, continue the route, where we can glimpse the renowned resort and golf course, Castro Marim Golf & Country Club. Further on, we can grab some refreshments at the Clube da Junqueira or at the Taberna do Gil e da Graça, but we can also find among the vegetable gardens and varied orchards, an orange grove alongside wells from another era built between secular walls.
At the end of the sector, and to define the stretch, visitors can rest and stay in a touristic rural area: “Casas do Palheiro Velho” [Old Haystack Houses], located on the Castelhanos site.
