About Guadiana Trails GR15
The GR15 is a 165-km long, signposted walking route, between Vila Real de Santo António in the far eastern Algarve, and Mértola in the Alentejo.
It starts / ends in the Enlightenment city of Vila Real de Santo António, in the Algarve, following along the section the territories of the Guadiana River. At each place, each village, each village and each landscape, the itinerary covers a vast cultural and natural legacy that reflects the ancient history of this river, the lands and the people that surround it.
Landscape, heritage, physical activity and clean air are the secrets of the GR15. From the sea to the mountains, from the coast to the interior, this route crosses four counties, Mértola, Alcoutim, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António.
This Great Route is distinguished by its multiplicity of landscapes, historical, heritage and natural elements.
From the beaches in the south, to the mountainous landscapes in the north, contact with the Guadiana River, and the observation of the diversity of fauna and flora that exist, are just some of the points of interest here.
